Sir, – I always enjoy reading Ed Power’s TV reviews. However, last Saturday he wrote a review that I must take issue with on one point (“70 Up review: The morbidly comforting message here is that nobody has life worked out,” September 19th).
In reviewing the documentary 70 Up, the 10th in a series which first aired in the 1960s, Ed writes, “suddenly there you are aged 70 full of regrets”.
Maybe things have changed drastically in the last few years but on reaching 70 years of age not too many years ago I had very few regrets.
I’m also cognisant of the possibility that at my age I may have forgotten my regrets. If so perhaps a little bit of memory lapse is not always a bad thing.

What I do agree with is Ed’s last thought on the subject: “It’s a journey we’re all on, and the morbidly comforting message of 70 Up is that nobody has things figured out and that all we really can do is muddle through as best we can.” – Yours, etc,
