Sir, – At the Bull Island recently, I saw two older women sitting at a bench completing a crossword in The Irish Times. When I was going by, one caught my eye and said: “This serpent does not multiply – five letters.”
As I stopped to think, I heard a shout from a young man who had just passed us: “Adder.”
