Sir, – Finn McRedmond tells us in her opinion article of April 21ston the British monarchy that we "possess a profound dearth of charity for those next door".
The question has to asked if, on the contrary, the recent dearth of charity is not predominantly in the opposite direction.
With the Belfast Agreement, passed by large majorities in both parts of this island, and the subsequent visit of Queen Elizabeth, a reconciliatory line had been drawn under centuries of colonial rule.
With the vote for Brexit, major damage has been done to the operation of the Belfast Agreement and to the goodwill between the former imperial power and this former colony that the Belfast Agreement represented.
All one has to do is read the coverage of much of the London media of this country to really see the dearth of charity in full flow. – Yours, etc,
ANTHONY LEAVY,
