Madam, - It was a great pleasure to read Brendan McWilliams's "Weather Eye" of September 21st about Vincent Van Gogh's ill-fated sojourn in Arles, and fascinating to discover the method by which an art-loving astronomer deduced the exact time and date when Van Gogh painted Evening Landscape with a Rising Moon.
It has often occurred to me that The Irish Times is the literary equivalent of a cornucopia, providing its readers with a feast of news reports and articles on every conceivable subject, from anatomy to zoology, with the crosswords and Sodoku puzzles to look forward to when all the reading is done.
I know I'm laying it on a bit thick, but the compliment is merited. At less than a tenner a week, the paper is excellent value for money. Keep up the good work. - Yours, etc,
JOE PATTON, Chapelizod Court, Dublin 20.
