Sir, – David Begg writes that the electorate rejected auction politics ("A new politics is now a possibility", Opinion & Analysis, March 3rd). If true, it would be very welcome.
Could I suggest that a significant portion of the electorate also rejected the type of politics that allowed Joan Burton to appoint Mr Begg to a State body, the Pension Authority, while ignoring the public appointments process?
Perhaps Mr Begg could demonstrate his commitment to “a new politics” by resigning that board position.
Perhaps Joan Burton might demonstrate that she has learned something from the election and admit that she was wrong to appoint Mr Begg in the manner in which she did. That would really be a new type of politics. – Yours, etc,
PAT MILLAR,
Castleknock, Dublin 15.
