Sir, – Ronan McGreevy's article about Irish sailors at the Battle of Jutland mentioned the 120 who perished aboard HMS Indefatigable (May 31st). One of those, Jeremiah Joseph Driscoll, has been the subject of a recent discovery. Hidden in a cupboard in St Mary of the Angels Church in Worthing is a plaque commemorating Stoker Driscoll. It must have been removed during redecoration and not replaced. A Skibbereen man, he once worked in the household of Canon James Purdon, long-time priest at St Mary's.
It appears that his former employer placed the memorial in the church. The plaque is now being restored to its rightful place in remembrance of Stoker Driscoll and all Irishmen who perished on that terrible day. – Yours, etc,
BRYAN ROBINSON,
