Sir, – The ATM robbers are being called the “untouchables”. Are they not more like the “uncatchables”? – Yours, etc,
DAVID MURNANE,
Dunshaughlin,
Co Meath.
Sir, – ATMs are fitted with a dye that stains the contents if it is not opened correctly. However, it is said that if the safe is placed in a deep freezer for 24 hours it can be opened without the contents being stained. Perhaps a thief can confirm this theory? Maybe the authorities need to look for large freezers. – Yours, etc,
RICHARD ALLEN,
Sligo.
Sir, – The 16 digger-assisted, cross-Border ATM thefts in 2019 have ranged from Bushmills in the north to Kells in the south, and from Irvinestown in the west to Mallusk in the east.
And not a single one in Donegal, despite an increase in burglaries following the 2015 closure of five Garda stations in the county!
The criminal gangs obviously did their research and found the roads were not adequate for a speedy getaway. – Yours, etc,
Dr JOHN DOHERTY,
Gaoth Dobhair
Co Dhún na nGall.
Sir, – I need to demolish a part of my house to facilitate a new extension. The quote that I have received from my builder seems quite high and I am wondering would it be better to install an ATM and let it sort itself out in a few days. – Yours, etc,
BRIAN CULLEN,
Rathfarnham,
Dublin 16.
