Sir, – Finn McRedmond writes that many in Britain vastly overestimate the extent to which others understand or are interested in the royal family, and that plenty in Ireland are unable to understand the appeal and relevance of the monarchy to British citizens ("British don't understand why we don't understand the royal family", Opinion & Analysis, March 11th).
Did the 725,000 people who made Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry the most-viewed programme on RTÉ 2 so far this year switch on by accident?
Were The Irish Times readers who again made a Harry and Meghan story the most-read of the day revealing the “cultural differences between Ireland and Britain” or the similarities? – Yours, etc,
Dr JOHN DOHERTY,
