A chara, – I was saddened to read of a 64-year-old man being sent to prison for cultivating cannabis in his attic ("Man who grew cannabis in attic as 'medicinal soup' jailed", March 9th).
There’s no denying the perils of drug abuse on individuals and wider society. However, a free and grown-up society should be able to distinguish drug abuse from drug use. It should recognise drug abuse for the health issue it is, and drug use as a personal prerogative. – Is mise,
