Sir, - Finian McGrath, TD, had a go at Roy Keane in your Letters page of August 2nd. There is something wrong with him if he cannot see the injustice meted out to Roy at the hands of Mick McCarthy and the FAI.
I was one of the 11,000 who cheered for Roy Keane in Tolka Park on July 20th and would do so again. Roy Keane is Ireland's greatest ever footballer and is a consummate professional. He expects the highest standards from those around him. For that he was sent home after being ambushed in Saipan.
Many of us were devastated that Roy was sent home from the World Cup, but the fault lay not with Roy who pointed out the deficiencies in the preparations, but with those who caused the whole fiasco in the first place. - Yours, etc.,
B. J. McATEER, Raheen, Limerick.
