Sir, – Dr Jonathon Roth’s reference to “the chip” (June 3rd) reminded me of the time, many years ago, when the first “chipper” opened in Listowel. A fellow came out of the cinema, went in and bought a bag of chips. On tasting the first one, he said to his companion, “I don’t care what anyone says, there’s spuds in them.” – Yours, etc,
