Closing a ‘loophole’ for the little people

Sir, – It was with a derisive eye that I read the article on the new legislation closing the “loophole” in motor taxation rules (Home News, July 1st).

I found it amusing that if I do not advise my local council in advance that my vehicle is to be off the road then I face a considerable fine and up to six months in prison, yet if I defraud the country of billions of euro I will face no such threats whatsoever.– Yours, etc,

STEVEN LONG,

Kinvara,

Galway.
