Madam, - The barbarians are truly at the gates.
This morning (May 26th) at 7.30am, a wrecking machine demolished the heritage building known as the Gazebo in Castletown Estate, apparently on behalf of a developer.
This building was the original 19th century gazebo of the walled garden of the Castletown estate. This was a heritage building of cultural worth, but apparently it is of more use to developers and they now appear to believe they have the freedom to demolish buildings at will. Roll on the New Ireland. - Yours, etc,
ANN MATTHEWS, Celbridge, Co Kildare.
