Madam, - Perhaps I may submit a solution to the controversy over Carlisle Pier, Dún Laoghaire (Property, July 20th).
Now that the authorities have (rightly) put double yellow lines along the sea road at Newtown Smith, I suggest they do away with all the high-rise schemes for the pier, get rid of the superstructure and turn the area into a car park.
Big money could be collected by the harbour board and we would all be relieved from the prospect of a brooding concrete block looking down on the citizens of Dún Laoghaire. - Yours, etc,
DJ MOONEY, Killiney Hill Park, Killiney, Co Dublin.
