Sir, – One would normally expect to see the results of a popular sporting event such as the Dublin Horse Show in the sports section of your august daily edition. Why then do we see them given a special position on pages two and three as though they were a news item of some import?
A throwback to a different age of privilege and one which hardly reflects today’s harsh competitive realities perhaps? – Yours, etc,
DEREK MacHUGH,
Foxrock, Dublin 18.
Sir, – It seems an odd tradition and anomaly in The Irish Times that the competitive element of the Dublin Horse Show is covered on the news pages rather than extensively in the the sports pages, as befits an Olympic sport and would be normal procedure.
It is particularly inconsistent that in the weekend editions there were no detailed results of the prestigious Dublin competitions whereas equestrian results from Poland, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden appeared in the sports section. – Yours, etc,
DERMOT ASHMORE,
Elliac,
France.
