Sir, – Your front page (November 17th) tells us that the pension fund of BAE Systems, an arms and weapons manufacturer, has bought properties in Dublin. Dublin City Council is now considering leasing these properties for social housing.
While I appreciate that properties of all types are badly needed for use as housing, I strongly feel that Dublin City Council should not even think about contributing towards pensions of a company whose products are designed and manufactured to kill, maim, and injure people all over the world.
Additionally, DCC should be asked if there was any oversight or investigation before agreeing to deal with an arms manufacturer. And is it now time to review the short-sighted policy of leasing properties for use as long-term homes? – Yours, etc,
HELEN FANNING,
Tallaght, Dublin 24
