Madam, - It should not be forgotten that, were it not for the pressure exerted by certain concerned groups and individuals, the accursed and flawed electronic voting system would have been deployed two years ago. It remains evident that the present Government, with no excuse for any haste, procured something that was neither provably secure nor accurate and tried to foist it upon a public that didn't even ask for it. We need a truly independent electoral commission before any more damage is done. - Yours, etc,
JOHN PELAN, Highgate, London.
