Madam, - Regarding Mary Raftery's article (June 30th) with respect to Ireland's compliance with EU environmental directives, I would like to point out to your readers that the report referred to in the article was commissioned by myself following on from a number of years of research, complaints and investigations which I carried out as a Green member of the European Parliament's environment committee.
The issue of non-compliance with EU environmental law has been one of my priorities for the past ten years in the European Parliament and, although I will be leaving the Parliament in July, I do not intend to give up on this vital struggle. The work I have done on this issue is not going to be left on the shelf and I am determined to continue the fight for full compliance with these important laws. If anyone wishes to receive a copy of this report, they can contact me directly at mckennap@iol.ie. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICIA MCKENNA MEP, European Parliament, 43 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2.
