Sir, – Many gardaí will be dismayed at the statements of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors, which suggest failure to appoint senior positions will lead to recurrent O'Higgin's-review type malpractices ("Failure to supervise frontline Garda a risk to force" – Commissioner).
Many, if not all public bodies suffer serious, chronic resource shortfall and while this leads to concerns regarding meeting service targets, descent into abuse of position is not a leading one.
If the AGSI cannot subscribe to the aspect of integrity that presumes one does the right thing when no-one is looking, then the issues they have insight into go far deeper than this reader appreciates. – Yours, etc,
