Sir, – Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council must stick to its guns and not give in to the vested interests of builders, developers and institutional investors ("Builders seek reversal of planning guidelines for bigger apartments", News, January 8th).
Many thousands of apartments are being constructed or are in the planning stages in the greater Dublin area. These mostly consist of co-living, studio or one-bed “units”. These are totally unsuited to couples or families and for present and future living and work arrangements. On top of that, the vast majority are built for rent so will have no effect on the shortage of properties for sale in this sector, thereby pushing buyers further into the commuter belt rather than the convenience of city living. – Yours, etc,
DAVID EARLE,
Monkstown,
Co Dublin.
