Madam, - As part of its economic policy document for the general election, Fianna Fáil yesterday pledged to achieve a target of spending 0.7 per cent of GNP on overseas development aid by 2012.
Could somebody please send Mr Ahern and Mr Cowen a copy of their 2002 Programme for Government? In it, they declared: "We will complete our major expansion of our Overseas Development Aid programme, achieving the UN target of 0.7 per cent of GNP by 2007."
With the election almost upon us, does Fianna Fáil intend simply to reproduce its 2002 manifesto in its entirety, replacing every reference to "2007" with "2012" as appropriate? Another promise broken, recycled and trotted out again, with not so much as an explanation or an apology.
How stupid do they think the voters are?
- Yours, etc,
SARAH MOORE, Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford.
