Sir, – Perhaps I’m intensely aware of the problem due to having a family member with a disability, but parking on footpaths appears to be getting much worse. Maybe it’s because people are working from home, but it’s thoughtless and can be incredibly distressing for anyone with a disability trying to navigate through the endless obstacles.
If a car is parked on a footpath and I have to walk single file with a friend to get by, how is an adult-sized wheelchair supposed to get through? Add in further difficulties from wheelie bins to trees hanging over walkways and broken or disconnected surfaces, and the lack of accessibility is losing some people their independence. Having a disability in Ireland poses enough challenges; it would be great if people didn’t create more. – Yours, etc,
FIONA DALY,
