A chara, – A simple solution to the problem would be to have a Gaelic football match instead of soccer. Let’s face it, the level of skill on display anyway won’t be overwhelming. The occasion is about raising money, so let Giggs and Scholes have a go at Gaelic. If the match happens to turn into a soccer match, I could not see any major issues either. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I note that Minister for Sport Shane Ross has commented that he expects “when we launch large infrastructure funds that the community will have access to something which is subsidised by State money” (News, July 26th).
Does he mean that the exclusive free car park at Dáil Éireann will be open to all taxpayers from now on? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I do not ever recall a testimonial to raise money for a GAA player’s family. The amateur ethos of the GAA is at the core of this.
There is a rational debate to be had on the subject . Sensitivity towards the Miller family makes it difficult to conduct one at the moment. – Yours, etc,
