Green policies? Not for cyclists

Madam, - I am outraged at our Government Departments, especially the Department of Transport. Earlier this month I went to apply for a seafarers' discharge book and identity card from the Department of the Marine. I travelled by bicycle, since traffic and parking conditions during the day are atrocious, as we all know.

When I arrived at the Department on Adelaide Road, I found there was nowhere to lock my bicycle, apart from a signpost outside the office - and even that was difficult as my lock was too small for the post.

After finding out that the Marine department had transferred its operations to the Department of Transport on Leeson Lane, I make the quick trip across there to find yet another Government Department without anywhere to lock a bicycle.

This Government claims to be promoting "a greener environment" and "environmentally friendly transport", but is this credible if it doesn't even supply the means to park a bike outside its own offices?
