Madam, - I thank Michael Viney for informing us of the Cork County Council publication Cork Rural Design Guide: Building a New House in the Countryside.
Full marks to the council for attempting to save the countryside from the woeful montrosities that are being allowed, even encouraged by the new guidelines, to pollute our rural environment.
A similar publication should be used by all planning authorities as mandatory guidelines for all future applications.
If, as now seems certain, permission for one-off houses is going to be easier to obtain, then surely very strict criteria should apply. - Yours, etc.,
