Sir , – I am at a loss to understand why it seems to be unacceptable for Iran to develop and possess nuclear weapons .
After all the US, Russia, China, France, UK etc, have them and are currently spending billions upon billions in increasing and updating their nuclear arsenals which seems to attract very little attention or concern.
In addition, Israel has a significant nuclear weapons capability and by the simple expedient of denying this is exempt from all or any scrutiny or inspection by international nuclear watchdogs.
Surely if it is unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons because it is considered to be a threat to its neighbours, then the same logic would rule out all current nuclear states based on their histories of invasion and interference in other countries.
Every country or no country should have an entitlement to nuclear weapons.
I’m sure most rational people and countries would opt for none. – Yours, etc,
HUGH PIERCE,
