Judging the judges

A chara, – As regards the proposed non-disclosure (except in exceptional situations) of the identity of judges who are found guilty of misconduct under the draft Judicial Council Bill, 2017, if enacted, it of course goes without saying that this approach is fundamentally wrong ("Judges not to be named if censured under proposed Judicial Council Bill", August 26th).

I would be curious, however, to know how such an approach was adopted in the first instance; whether the judiciary, either officially or unofficially, requested this; and, if not, whether they actually supported such a proposal?

If the judiciary sought, or even supported, such a construct, then clearly it is a case of “Do what we say, not what we do”.
