Sir, – The spirit of the late great Con Houlihan lives on in Malachy Clerkin's superbly atmospheric and beautifully written report on the game in The Irish Times (SportsMonday, September 2nd). – Yours, etc,

Sir, – What a display by Dublin and Kerry on Sunday in Croke Park. Probably the best game of football ever seen or likely to be seen again, it is interesting that a game of that quality should have been played on the same day Madrid announced the signing of Gareth Bale for an obscene amount of money.
Here we have two teams of unpaid professionals playing to a level that I doubt Gareth Bale, or indeed any other player or team in that particular code will ever achieve. Well done and thank you to all concerned for a truly memorable and exciting afternoon. It probably helps that the Dubs won. – Yours, etc,
JOE HARVEY,
