Sir, – Lara Marlowe refers to a portrait of Marie Antoinette "who was executed in 1778" ("Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun – France's unsung feminist painter", November 19th). Could it be that the portrait was executed in 1778? The painting has certainly fared better than its unfortunate subject, who was guillotined in 1793. – Yours, etc,
