ALEX FRENCH,
Sir, - Liam Clancy suggests (September 9th) that the Government should issue an €800 million DIRT-free bond to fund the national stadium.
He seems to forget that no matter where the Government gets the money, it still has to be repaid, thereby diverting much-needed funds from other Government departments.
Rather than being a "win-win possibility", a bond such as the one Mr Clancy suggests would not only force the Government to borrow the money at inflated rates, but also to lose the DIRT on money which might otherwise be in savings accounts.
