Sir, – That was a very dramatic photograph by Cyril Byrne on your front page (July 18th). However, the gulls (some of them the size of small turkeys) have ruined St Stephen’s Green in Dublin and can be quite dangerous. There are just a few ducks left, as they simply cannot compete. People caught feeding gulls in East Devon and other places in England face a fine of £80. We need to take steps to control herring gulls. They have taken over our city and its parks, and although they are lovely to look at, their place is at sea. – Yours, etc,
