Sir, – I concur with Peter Molloy's sentiments (Letters, May 5th) regarding allowing pet dogs in public houses.
On a recent trip to Paris with my 11-year-old daughter, we were delighted to meet an older couple who were dining out in the Four Seasons hotel with their perfectly well-behaved daschund.
No one batted an eye, save my daughter, who wondered why we could not bring our dog out to dinner in Ireland.
Maybe I bored her with a discussion on the EU legislation but she decided that the French had the right idea as dogs make for excellent dining companions, given that man’s best friend cannot talk!
– Yours, etc,
