Madam, - In reply to Tony Boyle (April 27th) I wish I were mistaken about the gravity of Dublin's planning nightmare. Of course the Luas is world-class - in terms of technology. When it comes to the density of the network, however, "world-class" means something like a Luas or Dart stop within 500 metres of every house in the city - and bus routes in between! Dozens of cities in Europe already have a public transport network of that order.
Dublin will not be competing with those cities on infrastructure in our generation. Dublin competes first and foremost on the grit, patience and hard work of its population. - Yours, etc,
