Madam - Helen Adams (September 22nd) describes being charged €1.90 for a pint of water and blackcurrant cordial. As the owner of two bars in Limerick City, I would be horrified if I was charged those prices.
My family have been in the licensed trade since 1898 and we feel aggrieved that all bars are being labelled as rip-off merchants just because the practice is widespread in Dublin.
If Ms Adams had bought the same drink in Finn's Bar and The Milestone, we would have charged her 60c.
Our other licensed premises, Nevada Smiths, charges just €2.50 for a pint of Foster's lager. Nevada Smiths spends up to €1,000 a week on live music and patrons are never charged to see any performances.
Not every bar, restaurant and hotel is engaged in charging excessive prices, so why not highlight those who are making an effort for customers so they can vote with their feet? - Yours, etc.,
