Sir, – In his attempt to sell the public sector a pup with the offer of a new pay deal, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin is barking up the wrong tree.
Even Fido, were one to whistle him in off Lansdowne Road, would see that the pay deal’s objectives are to muzzle public sector pay restoration demands and keep unions on a tight leash regarding dispute resolution and further productivity concessions – all in advance of an election by end of the year or early next year.
