Madam, - May I offer my sincere praise to The Irish Times? Your Letters page of Thursday, June 10th offered more information on the referendum than the Government managed since it was announced.
I am not against the current Government but I do feel that every time there is a - should we say? - cagey issue, it attempts to pull the wool over the eyes of the public. In this case, (a) by having the referendum on a day when attention is on other electoral issues and (b) by using anecdotal evidence from hospitals and not compiling any real research on "economic babies".
I will be moving to the US in a month's time, glad of the opportunity to take up residence in another country. The US has a very positive immigration system even if the media sometimes portray it to be otherwise. A more progressive immigration system would be a far better option for a small country like Ireland with fluctuating demands for economic migrants.
On the information that I managed to dig up, I voted No.- Yours, etc.,
