Reforming the multi-seat system

Sir, – Stephen Collins, in his discussion of the decision of the Constitutional Convention in favour of retention of the multi-seat system for Dáil elections (Opinion, August 31st), appears to believe this closes the door on the possibility of reform. The so-called Constitutional Convention was a stage-managed device designed to excuse inertia, to safeguard the status quo and to demoralise genuine seekers of amelioration for the sickness in the body politic.

Your columnist described well the problems and their profound nature. More is required than excuses, no matter how elaborately presented. – Yours, etc,
