Remembering Peadar Bourke

Sir, – The obituary for my grand-uncle Peadar Bourke was a fitting tribute to him and a reminder of a great theatrical family who forged a business which celebrated theatre and acting at a time when Ireland was growing up as an independent nation ("Last of a famous Dublin theatrical costumier family", May 30th). My own memories of my uncle Peadar, as I called him, were as a very young boy being allowed to dress up as anything I wished and to realise my fantasies in that theatrical paradise that was 66 Dame Street. He and his great colleague Sean Parnell were full of stories which I lapped up. I treasure the memories to this day.

One small correction – Seamus de Burca was the nom de plume of his brother Jimmy (my grandfather) not his uncle. – Yours, etc,
