Sir, – The headline and story on the front page are both alarming ("Many road projects in National Development Plan may never be completed", News, October 4th). Surely, rather than building "roads to nowhere", it makes sense not to waste money by not commencing such projects in the first place? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The Government is likely to sign-off on a 10-year €165 billion spend on various road projects that appears to be based on an unsustainable approach to future modes for the transportation of people and goods.
However, given the commitment in the programme for government agreed between the three parties to a 2:1 ratio of expenditure in favour of new public transport infrastructure over new roads, I await with great anticipation the introduction of the 10-year €330 billion programme for public transportation, cycleways and walking trails. – Yours, etc,
TOM TURNER,
