Sharing the road

Sir, – I have been mulling over a letter that appeared in your edition on August 18th that referred to cyclists “weaving” in and out of traffic. I’ve been cycling in Dublin for commuting purposes for over 20 years, and in my experience, the only reason cyclists do this is due to insufficient space between the cars and the footpath. However, please can we stop feeding this environment where we pitch cyclists against drivers or cyclists against pedestrians, etc? We are all just trying to get to work or school or college. More importantly I’d like to get there in one piece. Now that schools are back, and the mornings and evenings are getting darker, could we please beg all road users to slow down and show proper consideration and attention to the other users? – Yours, etc,

SÍOBHRA RUSH,
