Sir,– On a walk on the South Wall I noticed how shabby the Poolbeg chimneys are up close. Why is the ESB not painting them? Surely this famous Dublin landmark should be gleaming red and white with fresh paint.
I remember a day when I was young, we did a delivery to site. As health and safety at work had not yet been invented, the foreman let me climb the scaffolding to the top where I walked around. Male teenagers know no fear.
What about a glass-tube elevator to a lookout point at the top for tourists? It would be a powerful people magnet. Maybe a café and shop in one of the old steel silos on site. Although I did not see it myself, they say you can see Wales clearly.
If the ESB does not want to do the work I know many young (and not so young) entrepreneurs who would love the chance to finance and operate such a scheme on a profit-share basis.
It is a win/win idea for the ESB and our beautiful city. Let us start with a paint job and a little TLC from the ESB. – Yours, etc,
HARRY
