Madam, - James T. Morris, executive director of the World Food Programme, writes that "the [Irish] Government is right on track towards its goal of giving 0.7 per cent of its GNP in aid by 2007" (Opinion, June 8th).

Sadly, Mr Morris is mistaken. Aid as a percentage of GNP has in fact stalled since 2002. The Government now has to double aid spending by 2007 to keep its promise.

Fine words will get you only so far; it's time to deliver. - Yours, etc.,
