Sir, – It seems that politicians “cannot do right for doing wrong”.
Leo Varadkar is criticised because he appeared on national television warning people to be careful during unusually bad weather. People wonder if he did not have enough to do without addressing the need for care during a storm.
If he had decided not to do this, I can guarantee people would be outraged by his lack of interest and concern in the safety and welfare of people around the country. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Many congratulations to RTÉ’s staff – on radio and television – for their magnificent nationwide coverage of the weather crisis over the last few days. Public service broadcasting at its best. – Yours, etc,
LOUIS HOGAN,

Sir, – Ciaran McCullagh observes that the Taoiseach “is now giving the weather forecast on the radio” (March 3rd). Come St Patrick’s Day, can we expect a quid pro quo as Donald Trump is presented with a bowl of shamrock by Evelyn Cusack? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Now that March has come in like a lion, it will be interesting to see if it goes out like a lamb. – Yours, etc,
