The bus stops here

A chara, – If Minister for Transport Shane Ross is looking for an “early win”, he would do well to consider thinning out the number of bus stops in parts of Dublin’s suburbs and perhaps elsewhere.

Bus stops, no more than 100 metres apart, and many in the same line of vision, serve well neither the passenger, other road users, nor the environment. In one strike, he would be supporting a healthy Ireland, as well as improving traffic flow, by reducing the number of unnecessary and often cumbersome stops. While it might on the face of it seem punitive to the older and infirm, medical advice, I believe, is that some exercise is still advisable.

No doubt there are other areas of his brief where he would like to remove the stop-start, stop-start element. – Is mise,
