Madam, - On a recent trip back to Ireland I was astounded to learn that the price of Guinness had risen yet again. Regulars in the local bar were complaining bitterly, but continued to shell out.
I am bemused at the passive acceptance of this latest price rise. Breweries must be saving money through not supplying ashtrays. Pubs are cleaned in half the time without the debris left by smokers. Will the Irish drinker ever wise up and refuse to subscribe to excessive profits?
The only way to prevent absurd prices is to rebel. A week of abstinence might concentrate the minds of greedy profiteers. What's happened ye all? - Yours, etc.
