Sir, – I see that our new Minster for Education has given a mere 16 days to provide detailed submissions on a three-year education plan ("Minister planning to open schools after hours", May 23rd).
That is very revealing. It took 70 days to form a Government but we have 14 days to chart the future of our children’s education. I get the feeling that Richard Bruton has his own ideas (provided perhaps by the “permanent government”) and is only going through the motions by asking for opinions.
Given the constant turmoil in industrial relations between his department and the teachers’ unions, giving them 16 days to make a submission will hardly calm the waters. I am sure other stakeholders feel the same sense of not being taken seriously. If only we were Endapendents! – Yours, etc,
