Sir, – How many of the 650,000 “real Irish Christmas trees” produced by “seven to 10 years of dedicated work” are rootless, used once and thrown on the rubbish heap – and plastic ones are an even worse idea (“Real Christmas trees ruled out of order at Leinster House”, November 27th)?
Maybe this year cut trees have to be sold, to protect their producers, but surely there are greener alternatives for the future? It does not even have to be a fir tree – a potted holly tree, or another evergreen can be bought instead and brought inside for decoration every year.
When it gets too big it can be planted out in a garden or local park. – Yours, etc,
