Sir, – Tim O'Brien (News, February 10th), writing about the removal of trees from Molesworth Street, says "the missing trees were similar but younger than the mature trees which oversaw O'Connell Street since before 1916". In recent years I have heard many people refer to the pre-1916 trees in O'Connell Street but I have never seen photographic evidence of their existence. There is extant an aerial photograph of O'Connell Street taken by the late Fr Browne in the 1920s and there are no trees visible on the street. It seems that whatever trees that were removed from O'Connell Street in the recent past were not of a pre-1916 vintage. – Yours, etc,
L O’FLAHERTY,
