Madam, - A report in your edition of January 9th makes it clear that Bus Éireann does not intend to publish its internal report into the 2004 Waterford bus crash. The Dublin Bus report into the 2004 Wellington Quay bus tragedy also remains unpublished as a result of a directive from the DPP.
It is of critical importance that we learn the lessons of these accidents and that any related public safety issues are addressed.
Although it is in receipt of public funds, the CIÉ group remains outside the remit of the Freedom Of Information Act. Public pressure must be brought to bear to ensure publication of all safety reports.
A culture of secrecy and unaccountability regarding passenger safety cannot be tolerated. - Yours, etc,
