Sir, – It is a charming aspiration to have a city centre festooned with green trees and flowers, where pedestrians can casually stroll around admiring the Georgian architecture without having to contend with motor cars polluting the air and disturbing the thrushes and blackbirds warbling in the overhead foliage. The people of Dublin would love to inhabit such a utopian city.
However, we are blessed with planners who do not seem to be able to comprehend the concept of consultation and co-operation that is necessary if we are to make the best of the limited road space available in our beautiful town. One set of planners is designing a multimillion euro hospital, located in an extremely congested part of the city. Another set of planners is designing a road layout that removes vital traffic corridors from the people who may wish to access that hospital from the Northside of the city. God help us. – Yours, etc,
JOHN O’CONNOR,
Raheny,
Dublin 5.
